- Peer Reporting: Learners can report incidents involving others.
C. Step-by-Step Reporting Process
Step 1: Submission
The learner or reporter provides details of the incident — who, what, when, and where.
They can remain anonymous if they wish (unless the law requires identification, e.g., for serious crimes).
Step 2: Initial Triage
A designated staff member (e.g., safety coordinator or counsellor) reviews the report within 24 hours to assess the level of threat (low, medium, high).
Step 3: Investigation
- Interview involved parties and witnesses.
- Review evidence (e.g., CCTV, messages).
- Maintain confidentiality for all involved.
Step 4: Documentation
- Record findings in a confidential incident report.
- Store securely in compliance with POPIA (privacy laws).
Step 5: Response and Intervention
- Apply consequences per school policy.
- Notify parents/guardians.
- Involve police or social workers when necessary.
- Provide counselling or mediation.
Follow-Up
- Monitor for retaliation or repeated incidents.
- Continue emotional and academic support.
