Understanding Violence

According to the World Health Organization (2002), violence is:

“The intentional use of force or power, actual or threatened, that results in or is likely to result in injury, death, psychological harm, poor development, or deprivation.”

Types of Violence:

1. Violence against oneself – e.g., self-harm or suicide
2. Person-to-person violence – e.g., bullying, assault
3. Collective violence – e.g., gang or group-related actions
4. Psychological/Verbal violence – may escalate to physical aggression
